Quiet Conversations and Dinner at Chateau 1771

Lettuce Says,

One typical Friday night right after I got off from work, I met up with my hubby John (aka Sunrise) and swayed him to have a light dinner someplace nice. I quickly browsed my ever-reliable foodie app Zomato PH to check restaurants nearby with an uncomplicated menu.  That's where I chanced upon Chateau 1771 at Greenbelt 5. I knew we always pass by this side of Greenbelt and secretly plan to dine here to celebrate a special occasion but somehow we had never really gotten around to calling for reservations.  We were the first diners who came in, with still light from remaining sun rays of the afternoon. Since we were this early, seating didn't became an issue. But next time we'll definitely call for reservations.

Seeing Chateau 1771 from the outside, the place screams of elegant fine dining with that snob-like class what with those plush chairs, muted lighting, delicate cutleries and wine glasses . Maybe that's why at the back of my mind I always think of this place as an expensive restaurant only for special occasions. Upon entering, we pleasantly noted the tasteful antique decor, high ceilings, fresh flower centerpieces, and French picture windows.

Their menu was simple and limited to just a few European inspired dishes made from fresh and organic ingredients.

Complimentary Thin Bread Sticks and Eggplant Spread

Not a fan of their complimentary biscuits and spread, I love restaurants that serve freshly baked breads or dinner rolls.

Grilled Asparagus and Tomato Salad
Grilled Asparagus and Tomato Salad (PhP 450)

Grilled asparagus and tomato with lettuce greens, arugula and feta cheese drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette.
It's best if you split some dishes to two, like this salad, a two half servings were actually bigger than a solo serving. I love the simplicity and smoky lightness of this salad. I wonder why I can't re-create this at home, must be their special vinaigrette and the classy ambiance the restaurant gave off.

Vanilla Brick Oven Spring Chicken
Vanilla Brick Oven Spring Chicken (PhP 690)

Organic whole spring chicken, butterflied and deboned, spread with vanilla dots, butter and garlic and grilled under a brick with mashed potato. I was slightly worried that I wouldn't like this dish because of the vanilla. But lo and behold the vanilla dots gave it a fragrant and subtle flavor.

Premium Ragu Fettucine
Premium Ragu Fettucine (PhP 490)

Ground Angus beef and organic pork gently cooked with plum tomatoes and white wine.
Pasta was a bit overcooked and dry even after tossing the meat sauce. Hope they can improve this dish.

Mango Banana Fruitshake(PhP 180)

Pure fruity goodness, although a little on the sour side. This could be better if they have option to add milk or honey.

Triple Chocolate Mousse (PhP 320)

The climax and cool down of our meal was the smooth and velvety triple dark and white Valhrona chocolate mousse with live acoustics on the background.

The servers were very attentive, they might have ESP as far as changing plates and courses were concerned.

After relishing our dessert, Sunrise and I realized that a magical thing happened at Chateau 1771, we were so enthralled by our private conversations during dinner that our three-course meal stretched to three hours without even noticing. A quality time well spent with my better half. Thank you Chateau 1771 and Zomato PH, we found a truly "fine" restaurant. Looking forward to the flambeed steak, Potence, next time.

RML Manokan Haus Kamayan Antique

Snapshots of Last Year Series

Lettuce Says,

I unearthed a lot of photos of my construction career days. I'll be sharing with you some of our food finds in the provinces.

After a long and tiring day of survey works, we grabbed some dinner at RML Manokan Haus Kamayan in Antique.

 Nice Interiors

I love the simplicity and cleanliness of the place. Perfect for some bottles of Pale Pilsen. Beer for my bosses, fresh buko for me.

The Snob Fish
This large fish amused me. They said it brings good luck to the resto. And she’s not for cooking. Cute diba? :)

Chicken Inasal Pakpak with Rice
This is their specialty. Well, plenty restaurants here that offer inasal. But this is way far tastier than what we have here in Manila. They only use fresh native chickens. I should have ordered the paa (thigh-leg) part instead of their skinny wings.  Then, drizzle your rice with some sinful chicken oil! No need for spoon and fork here, kamayan restaurants have washing areas for your oily hands.

Talaba (Fresh Oysters)
This is not the first time I ate some fresh oysters. But I usually ignore this in buffet tables because of the fishy-slimy texture. I always order it baked. But after some bullying from my bosses, I got to taste the freshest oysters in the country (so far)! They said that I shouldn’t believe those restos in Manila that have “fresh” oysters in their menu. The oysters in Bacolod are the real deal. Why? The sea is just behind them! Talk about some sea to plate transfers.

Hmmm, I have to bring Sunrise here.
