Lettuce Says,
It's
time to feature my dear hometown, Malolos City! Malolos is the city capital of
Bulacan. Some of you may think Bulacan is not worth visiting since it's just a
UV Express away from Metro Manila. But if you want to unwind over the weekend,
one of your cheapest options are in Malolos City!
Initially,
this post is for our closest family and friends who need map directions and
hotels to stay in to witness our matrimony this December. But Sunrise and I
have thought to open a travel inserts here in My Empty Plates. (Yey!) And a great way to launch this is
to start with my hometown.
I grew
up here in Malolos in a conservative and simple home. All I know then is study
and read novels. I went to Marcelo H. del Pilar High School which is now a
National High School, what a feat! I belonged to a special science section back
then which somehow equipped me well for college. Good job for all the national
high schools out there!
I'd like
to share some of our wedding preps and the culture differences we found out along the way.
We got
our marriage license in Binan, Laguna. We attended the pre-marriage seminar
arranged by the city hall. There were approx. 35 couples who attended wherein we were one of the oldest in age. Hehe sorry career woman tyo eh! Most of them were
in their teens and some were already pregnant. We paid PhP200 when we filled out
and file forms. After a week, we attended the seminar for free. The week after,
we paid PhP10 and got our marriage
license. Pretty fast! Take note that the license is only valid for 120 days.
Let's go
to the church requirements. We wish to be wed in Basilica Minore Immaculada
Concepcion, popularly known as, Malolos Cathedral. We chose this church over
the more popular Barasoain Church because of its significance in our lives. We
both love Mama Mary. I was a choir member of the 7am mass back in my high
school years. This was where I received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
December 8, 2006, which was also the Feast of Immaculate Concepcion, while we were hearing
mass, two months after I finally ended my past relationship, I asked Mama Mary
for a sign that if this guy is still here with me on this church attending mass
on Mama Mary's birthday, September 8, 2007, it means that maybe He's iz it. Guess when is our
anniversary?
Regarding
the wedding date of course we prefer Dec 8 but by January of this year, almost all
weekend afternoon slots were filled up already except Dec 29. Later we found
out the significance, guess when was my confirmation date? :)
Then we
had our interview with the parish priest, Fr. RJ. I was really nervous when we
had the interview that I told him almost everything, he didn't have any
questions left for John. Hehehe
When we
attended the pre-cana seminar, Fr. RJ and the speakers were very glad because
all the couples who attended were as he said, in the ripest age for marriage.
All were in the 24-36 age range. As a girl who grew up in Malolos, I can say
that most people here were those who study, then work and give back to their
parents, assist in their younger siblings' education expenses before finally
settling down and build their own family.
The priest that will officiate in our wedding is Fr. Rany of (guest where? Mama Mary never failed to give us the signs) the Immaculate Concepcion Parish-Tayuman, was a highschool batchmate of Sunrise in OLGMS. Yes, once upon a time, Sunrise entered the seminary.
Without further ado, here are the google maps and directions going to the Malolos Cathedral.
